2026-27 NBA season: when the predictions start

The 2026-27 regular season tips off on Tuesday, October 20, with the Knicks raising their championship banner at Madison Square Garden. From that night on, the AI publishes its NBA predictions every game day: 82 games per team through April, then the Play-In and the playoffs.

Picks go up before tip-off of each game. You can see the odds in decimal (2.40 / 1.40) or American (+140 / -250) format.

The first picks of the 2026-27 season go up on Tuesday, October 20. This table fills in by itself with every NBA pick, its odds and its result, won or lost.

How sharp is the NBA model?

Before a single pick went live, the model was tested against the two previous full seasons (2024-25 and 2025-26, about 1,280 games each): it picked the winner in 64-66% of games, against 54-55% for always backing the home team. In games where it gave a team a 70% to 80% chance, it was right 79% to 83% of the time.

That is why the AI only publishes when its probability reaches 70% and the odds pay more than they should (at least a 4% edge, minimum odds of 1.40). Some days there are four picks, some days none: no value, no pick. A test on past seasons is not a guarantee; what counts is the live track record, public pick by pick.

How the AI picks the play of the day

The model turns each team’s offensive and defensive output into a probability and compares it with the odds; it publishes only when there’s value. More detail in AI for basketball and in NBA predictions with AI.

Won or lost, it stays public

Each prediction auto-resolves from the final score and stays in the track record: wins and losses in plain sight.
