AI for football: how artificial intelligence predicts matches

What an AI applied to football actually does, how it computes probabilities and why it only bets when there is value.

AI applied to football — Gambeta

Gambeta's AI for football turns data into probabilities and bets only when there is value. For each match it combines form, head-to-head, home/away performance and odds movement, estimates the true probability of every outcome and compares it with the bookmaker's price. When its probability beats the implied one, it publishes the pick — with a 1.50 minimum odds and a confidence level. Free, with a public track record.

AI for football is not a crystal ball. It is a system that processes thousands of data points per match to find one specific thing: spots where the odds don't reflect the true probability. That's called value, and it's the only thing that makes a bettor profitable long term.

How it analyses a match

For each fixture the model combines recent form, the head-to-head record, home and away performance, expected goals and odds movement. With that it computes its own probability for every outcome.

The value criterion

Odds of 2.00 imply a 50% probability. If the model estimates the outcome at 58%, there's an edge — that's the essence of value. The AI only recommends when its estimate beats the odds, never on a hunch.

Which markets it plays

Minimum odds of 1.50

No pick is published below 1.50 odds. It rules out throwaway favourites and keeps the long-run yield healthy. The same rule applies to baseball and tennis.

Which market pays in each league

Not every market performs the same in the same competition, and you cannot work that out by reading previews — you have to look at the results. These come from our public record, across 809 settled picks:

Only leagues with a sample large enough to mean something: below 20 settled picks the percentage is noise. Dashes are leagues where no single market reaches the minimum sample.

The gap is the whole point: the market that pays changes with the competition. Applying one strategy across every league is the most expensive mistake in football betting.

Small samples: read them as a trend, not a guarantee. The numbers include the misses as well as the hits and recalculate as picks settle. Our overall hit rate is 59.7% and our yield sits at 1.04% — essentially break-even, because accuracy alone is not enough when the bet sizing is wrong.
