Betting diary with AI: how to keep it, review it every week and what the Betting Journal is

Columns, the write-it-first rule, a review prompt, and how Gambeta's Betting Journal does the same thing every day.

A betting diary is a table where you record each bet before you place it: date, match, market, odds, stake and reason. Then, with an AI, you review your patterns every week. Gambeta's Betting Journal does the same thing every day with the AI's picks.

  • Write it down before betting: a reason written afterward is worthless.
  • Once a week, give the diary to an AI with a diagnosis prompt, not an advice prompt.
  • Gambeta's Betting Journal publishes yesterday's picks every day with their results, hits and misses.

Why keep a betting diary?

Almost everyone thinks they remember their bets.

Almost everyone remembers the wins and forgets the losses.

A diary corrects that selective memory.

It does not have to be complicated.

A simple table is enough.

What matters is consistency and honesty.

A diary does not make you win.

It shows you how you bet, and that is already a lot.

Betting involves risk.

18+ only.

The diary template: eight columns

You can build it in any spreadsheet.

These are the columns we recommend.

The values are examples.

ColumnWhat you recordExampleTypical mistake
DateWhen you bet10/30, 6:00 PMRecording only the day
MatchTeams and leagueMilan vs a Serie A opponentForgetting the league
MarketType of betOver 2.5 goalsWriting only โ€œgoalโ€
OddsThe value you took1.95Recording the ideal odds, not the real ones
StakeHow much you risk2% of bankrollRecording it as money without the percentage
ReasonWhy you betTwo attacking teamsWriting it after the match
ResultWon, lost or voidLostNot recording the losses
MoodHow you feltCalm or rushedSkipping it because it is uncomfortable

The golden rule: write it down BEFORE betting

If you write it afterward, the diary lies.

After the result, your reason changes.

A lost bet โ€œhad a bad reasonโ€ and a won one โ€œwas obvious.โ€

Writing it first gives you three advantages.

It forces you to write a concrete reason.

It stops you when you have none.

And it leaves an honest record to review.

How to build your diary in 6 steps

How to use an AI to review your diary

This is where AI is very useful.

Do not ask it to predict matches.

Ask it to analyze your behavior.

Prompt
This is my betting diary for the last [NUMBER] weeks: [PASTE THE TABLE].
My maximum stake is [MAXIMUM STAKE]% and my minimum odds are [MINIMUM ODDS].
Give me a diagnosis: 1) how many bets broke my rules, 2) in which markets or leagues I have the most losses, 3) what mood pattern repeats in the losses.
Don't tell me what to bet.
If the sample is too small to conclude anything, tell me.

To set up an assistant that always does this, see the guide to building your own AI.

To get automatic alerts, continue with the one on alerts software.

Monthly review prompt

Once a month it is worth looking at the big picture.

This prompt is for that.

Prompt
With my diary for the month of [MONTH]: [PASTE THE TABLE], calculate: number of bets, percentage won, average odds and average stake.
Tell me whether my result is explained by a small sample or by a pattern.
List my three most repeated mistakes and propose a concrete rule for each one.
Close with a question for me to ask myself.

What is Gambeta's Betting Journal?

The Betting Journal is Gambeta's diary, but public.

It is an article that comes out every day on the blog.

It does the same thing we suggest here: record, settle and review.

Here is what it contains, based on how it is built.

First, whatever was left pending from yesterday is closed out, so the results are up to date.

Then the table of yesterday's picks is built with their results.

If a pick has no verified result, it shows โ€œno resultโ€ and does not count: a score is never made up.

  • Yesterday's picks with their results: hits and misses, hiding nothing.
  • The correction of the previous day: we celebrate a good day or analyze the misses.
  • Today's picks: the pending ones that have not started yet.
  • The star pick: the one the AI likes best among today's.
  • What was sold yesterday: if anything was, the Human High Stake and the Martingale with their result.

How the Betting Journal is built: code supplies the data, AI supplies the voice

This division is key.

The code calculates everything that is data: scores, tables and units.

The AI writes only the voice: the title, the intro, the comments and the closing.

The AI does not write figures.

That prevents it from inventing a number.

Even the emoji in the title is chosen by the code, not by the AI.

To measure the day, one unit per pick is used.

If the pick wins, it adds the odds minus one.

If it loses, it subtracts one unit.

It is a simple, comparable way to see how the day went.

We should not idealize it either.

One good day proves nothing.

To know whether a method works you need a large sample, and that is why the public track record exists.

Common mistakes when keeping a diary

  1. Recording only the wins.
  2. Writing the reason after the match.
  3. Changing the stake without leaving a trace.
  4. Reviewing the diary only when you are losing.
  5. Asking the AI to predict instead of diagnose.
  6. Abandoning the diary after a week.

If you want a ready-made spreadsheet, see the Excel template for betting control.

To set limits, the spreadsheet with limits.

And to understand how to size your stake, the Kelly calculator.

Responsible gambling: if the diary shows you losses that worry you, stop.

Frequently asked questions

What is a betting diary?

It is a table where you record each bet with its details and your reason.

It shows you what you really do, not what you think you do.

It is the simplest and most underrated control tool.

Which columns should it have?

Date, match, market, odds, stake, reason, result and a mood note.

With those eight you can spot almost all of your patterns.

You can add more later.

Why do I have to write it down before betting?

Because the brain rewrites history.

If you write it afterward, the reason adjusts to the result.

Writing it first forces you to think and stops you if you have no reasons.

How does an AI help me with the diary?

You give it the diary and ask for a diagnosis: patterns, repeated mistakes and deviations from your rules.

Do not ask it to tell you what to bet.

The AI analyzes your behavior, not the future.

What is the Betting Journal?

It is a daily Gambeta article with yesterday's picks, their results, today's picks and the one the AI likes best.

It corrects yesterday without hiding the misses.

You can read it on the blog.

Does the Betting Journal guarantee profits?

No.

It is a public record of what happened and of what is published.

Betting involves the risk of losing money.
